Postdoc to project on Compromise - Political Theory

More specifically, we are looking for a candidate for an 11 months postdoc position for our research project on Compromise. The candidate should have a PhD within the field of political theory/philosophy.  Ideally, she or he has already done work on compromise or related topics in democratic theory. During the last year of the project (2018), we would like to focus on the relations between compromise, party politics, technocracy, and populism, so we are also interested in hearing from people who work on these topics.

The plan is to hire the postdoc from January 1, 2018 to October 31, 2018.

COMPROMISE is a research project that investigates the meaning, use and value of compromises in political theory and real politics. Considering political compromises inherently valuable in democratic decision-making, the ambition of this project is to provide a framework for a deeper understanding and evaluation of political compromise-formation. Beginning from the fact of disagreement and the need for principles for compromise-formation, the project contributes to contemporary debates in the international literature on how to do normative political theory that takes political realities seriously. Hence, the overall aim of the project is to gain a better understanding of the interplay of the formulation and promotion of ideals, on the one hand, and a political reality characterized by disagreement and the need for compromise, on the other hand.

The research project is based in the Department of Political Science at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. The project is lead by Professor Christian F. Rostbøll and the research team also includes Associate Professor Anders Berg-Sørensen and two postdocs.

Please send a letter of interest and a CV to cr@ifs.ku.dk, as soon as possible and no later than October 11, 2017.
