Call for Posters: Early Stage Researchers’ Day at the Faculty of Social Sciences

11 November 2019

The Early Stage Researchers’ Day at the Faculty of Social Sciences 2019 will address publication strategies in the social sciences by bringing together doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers and established academics. We particularly aim at discussing the pros and cons of writing a thesis by (journal) publication or, conversely, of writing a monograph. For this year’s poster exhibition, we therefore invite advanced doctoral candidates of and graduates from the Faculty of Social Sciences to present their ongoing or completed doctoral research projects. Besides the research topic, objectives, methodological approach, and (first) results, posters should outline the structure of the thesis, i.e. the main chapters of the monograph, or the papers planned or submitted for a thesis by publication.

The Graduate Centre of the Faculty of Social Sciences offers the possibility to design the posters with the help of a professional graphic designer and it also covers the costs of poster design and printing. We expect you to be present during the exhibition on 11 November 2019, from 17:00 to 21:00. Presenting a poster at the Early Stage Researchers’ Day provides an opportunity to enhance the visibility of your work and to engage in an active exchange with established academics and other early stage researchers at the Faculty.

Submissions must include:

  • Name of the author
  • Field of study (discipline)
  • Supervisor
  • Title of the thesis
  • A short abstract of no more than 300 words
  • Information on the form of the thesis (monograph or thesis by publication)
  • A note on the status of the doctoral project (If completed: When did you receive your doctoral degree? If ongoing: When did you start your doctoral studies?)

Submissions and posters should be in English only. The Dean and Vice-Deans of the Faculty will review all submissions and make a decision.

Please send your submissions via e-mail to the Graduate Centre of the Faculty of Social Sciences (gz.sowi@univie.ac.at) by 10 June 2019. Please contact Eva Kössner (+43-1-4277-49081, eva.koessner@univie.ac.at) if you have any questions. Authors will be notified by 2 July 2019.

The deadline has been extended until 17 June 2019!
